Rejoice, Be Glad, Count Your Real Blessings!

The Gospel for the 6th Sunday in Ordinary time of Year C (Luke 6:17, 20 – 26) presents us with four contrasts – poverty and riches; hunger and fullness; sorrow and laughter; and defamation and commendation.

In Jesus’ words to the great crowd and to all who wish to be his disciples today, he upturns the values we would usually consider desirable.

As we hear the word of God proclaimed this weekend and spend time in the coming week reflecting on its meaning for our living today, we’re invited to consider:

What are the things of true value in your life? What do you count as the true blessings in life?

Do you look at people and at life from the viewpoint of Jesus or do you seek consolation in ‘things’ and in experiences of ‘the good life’ now?
