Pope’s Prayer Intention – October

During October 2019, Pope Francis invites us to join his worldwide prayer network by praying that the breath of the Holy Spirit will engender a new missionary “spring” in the church.

Let’s take time in the coming weeks to remember that by our Baptism we are sent. The chosen theme for October is: “Baptised and Sent: The Church of Christ on Mission in the World”. We are called to be Christ’s disciples on mission each and every day.

When we pause to pray this month the following points might offer some review of our living:

What message does our presence with others in community, family or work announce?

In what specific ways do our lives and ministries reflect love and hope to others, especially to those most in need?

Do the people we meet or those who come to our homes and our churches experience welcome, healing and care?

PRAYERS FOR THE MISSIONARY MONTH OF OCTOBER (compiled by James O’Brien)

Creator God, create in us a new sense of solidarity with the poor. Give us the courage to reach out to the excluded, the energy to walk with the lost and the words to encourage the lonely. May we pour out our lives in service.

Father of all, you sent your son to bring life to the world and encouragement to its people. Be the animator of all church communities, the source of our common generosity and the sustainer of every disciple.

Spirit of life, you pour love into our hearts. Help us attend to your movements within us, to discern your presence in our decisions, and to follow in your way of joy.

Christ our brother, send us out to our families, friends, communities and workplaces as ambassadors of your peace. Make us aware of your presence in the depths of our hearts and in the spaces between us.
