Victory for Workers

ACRATH has shared the good news that: Migrant workers in Top Glove rubber glove factories in Malaysia will be remediated with respect to recruitment fees previously paid by the migrant workers to agents or other parties. Top Glove manufactures one-quarter of the world’s disposable gloves. During the Covid-19 pandemic their profits have soared. Repayments to workers will amount to a total of $40 million. This is a victory for Top Gloves more than 12,000 migrant workers.

Migrant Worker Rights Specialist, Andy Hall, commented, “Top Glove’s welcome reimbursement announcement will hopefully signal a first important step in increasing emancipation of its foreign workers and all of these other foreign workers employed in Malaysia from debt bondage, forced labour and modern slavery situations.”
