2022: UN International Year

The United Nations has declared 2022 the International Year of Glass. The plan is to shine a light on a traditional, sustainable, and innovative technology. The spotlight on glass highlights how a traditional product can be a part of  sustainable development.

Glass is an important part of our lives. It is used to build cars and planes, houses and sculptures; it’s used to to help people communicate at the speed of light using fiber optics in our internet cables; we use glass to see properly with spectacles and microscopic lenses and to save energy with insulation. 2022 is also the UN International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture which highlights the importance of sustainably using the oceans for the future within the current context of global overfishing.
