The Leinster Express in Ireland recently noted, that ‘Since the generous handover by the Brigidine Sisters of their convent and their school to Mountrath in 2017, the vacant site has become a busy base for dozens of local groups and clubs’.
A new enterprise centre, christened Bloom HQ, is in the process of being set up. This centre is almost ready and is planned to open in May 2019 as an alternative to city working. The hope is to have a high -tech centre with 40 desks in flexible co-working spaces for those who wish to work from home but need a quiet space. The centre will also provide space for meetings and presentations.
Many parts of the building have been renovated with the old study hall now a fully equipped gym which opens at 6 am each day. There are also spaces being provided throughout the building, for the many groups and clubs that have made it their home. The old staff room is now a meeting room and the Mountrath Parish Lenten Programme takes place there with some of the local Brigidine Sisters availing of the opportunity to take time out to reflect and pray with other parishioners.
As Brigidines, we are proud of what is happening and evolving on this site – thanks to all those on the Mountrath Community Forum who are working tirelessly to bring their dream to fulfilment. May this gift to the people of Mountrath, Co Laois nurture for them a future full of hope.
“We are called in solidarity with others… to extend and deepen our partnerships in a spirit of mutual trust and service fostering a sense of dignity and opportunity for all according to evolving needs.” (Invitation and Call, Brigidine Congregational Forum 2016).
