Our world is awash in studies that describe the impact of climate change on flora and fauna, oceans, rivers, cities – virtually all ecosystems and all aspects of life.
A new report, issued on February 18 by the U.N. Environment Programme, urges us to change our relationships with the rest of the natural world and take some specific steps to protect the planet and future generations against the worst impacts of climate disaster. This is surely a call to both personal and global conversion this Lent. During Lent re-reading Pope Francis Encyclical “Laudato Si” could form an aspect of our listening to God in our lives: http://www.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/encyclicals/documents/papa-francesco_20150524_enciclica-laudato-si.html
“A healthy relationship with creation is one dimension of overall personal conversion, which entails the recognition of our errors, sins, faults and failures, and leads to heartfelt repentance and desire to change.” (LS, Paragraph 218)
