On the feast of Christ the King, we renew our trust in the Divine Energy of the God of love at the heart of all, animating fresh possibilities. We join the whole Christian Community in praying the prayer Jesus taught his first disciples.
1. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Your name.
All: We give thanks for the sacredness of all life and the interconnectedness of all creation.
2. Your kingdom come, Your will be done.
All: We are privileged to be called to be partners with You in the unfolding of the Universe.
3. On earth as it is in heaven.
All: In response to Jesus’ call may we keep working for ecological and social justice so that God’s reign of peace and life for all may be a greater reality in our world.
4. Give us this day our daily bread.
All: May our priority be to ensure that life’s boundless gifts are always fairly shared and that we take only enough of Earth’s resources to meet our daily needs.
5. And forgive us our trespasses.
All: We acknowledge our part in the exploitation or wasting of Earth’s gifts and in causing any offence to others by our harsh judgments or hurtful words.
6. As we forgive those who trespass against us.
All: May we work to foster a spirit of reconciliation and respect in all our relationships, our communities and our world, so that Your way of peace may reign rather than conflict or violence.
7. And lead us not into temptation.
ALL: Keep us from prejudice, bigotry and selfishness, so that the exploitation and the suffering of others may be eliminated and all may live according to Your dream.
8. But deliver us from evil.
All: May our ways of living and working be marked by empathy, generosity and compassion. May we strive to live simply, act justly and love tenderly.
9. For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
All: Now and for all ages to come. AMEN.
