Sister Teresa Maya, Sister of Charity of the Incarnate Word became the President of the LCWR at the recent Conference in Orlando, Florida. Teresa Maya, a Mexican American, who went to the US as a high school student, will bring a bicultural perspective to the LCWR. She joined her community in Mexico City in 1995 and took her final vows in 2002. She has a passion for education and has been engaged in various ministries in schools, at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas and as a leader within her own community.
“When I look back on the last few years, I realize my ministry is no longer education. It’s religious life itself: ensuring its viability, ensuring it stays focused on its mission, our own kind of love for our own life” she said. “It’s been a new learning. As I had to learn to be principal, I had to learn this is a calling.”
