A number of Brigidine Sisters, together with staff, volunteers and supporters of BASP -ie the Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project, joined in solidarity with thousands of others from various faith communities and justice groups for the Annual Walk for Refugees in Melbourne on Palm Sunday.
After listening to several challenging speeches, the assembled group walked through the city streets calling for justice for refugees and a change to those political strategies that keep refugees incarcerated in offshore colonies for extended periods and deprived of sufficient support and assistance when released into our communities.
Sisters who were unable to attend The Walk on Palm Sunday remembered in prayer on this day the millions of refugees and asylum seekers throughout the world who are still seeking the chance to start a new life in safety and hospitality, for Jesus’ words continue to challenge us:“I was a stranger and you welcomed me”.
