The annual observance of the International Day of Families takes place this year on 15 May 2019. The theme of this year’s day is – “Families and Climate Action: Focus on Sustainable Development Goal(SDG) 13”.
The day reflects the importance the international community attaches to families and their role in development and in dealing with the challenges of climate change.
The 2019 observance focusses on families, family policies and major SDG13 targets:
1. SDG 13.3 – to improve education, awareness raising and human institutional capacity on climate change;
2. SDG 13.2 – to integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning.
On this day we remember and prayer for the members of our own families and for families all around the world. We especially pray for families experiencing hardship, poverty, violence, abuse or displacement at this time. We also pray for the families we work with in our places of ministry – giving thanks for their many gifts of life and daily love and praying they will continue to know the blessings of each other and of the God of life.
