A Voice of Peace in the Midst of Chaos

We’re certainly living in a time of extraordinary chaos! Our world and our lives are being battered by various threatening waves!

In the Gospel from Matthew 14:22-33 which is proclaimed on the Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year A, we are invited to hear the voice of Jesus that speaks of peace in the midst of life’s storms.

As we pray with the text this week, we might consider which of the characters we are in the story. Am I in the boat as one of the disciples? Am I like Jesus – in the hills and away from all the action?  Am I more like Jesus – stepping out on stormy waters and speaking words of courage or peace to those trapped in fear? Am I like Peter, struggling to have faith, needing a reassuring word or a hand to hold on to in order to come to a deeper faith?

Let us pray for each other and for all during this graced time of turmoil yet of invitation and keep our eyes firmly fixed on Jesus, the true source of hope
