An Environmental Challenge From Ireland

Brigidine Sisters are called in solidarity with others, “To deepen our understanding of the complexity and inter-relatedness of factors which threaten the life and well-being of our common home”. (2016 Brigidine Congregational Forum)

The following news from Ireland raises a number of ecological issues about water that are currently being faced in that country. It is clear that Ireland is not the only nation grappling with such challenges. Many other nations today are dealing with the complexities of climate change impacting on the quality and sustainability and quality of water – droughts, flooding, rising sea levels, pollution, ocean degradation caused by pollution etc.

As we consider and reflect about these inter-related issues, may we bring to our prayer and conversations in community and with others, a presence that is aware of and responsive to the ecological crisis of our time.

May we be ready to raise our voices to advocate for and promote environmental well-being.

May we be prepared to take decisive action in our homes, neighbourhoods and other areas of influence to save and protect the precious gift of water.
