On January 26th, Brigidines living in Australia will recognise and celebrate Australia Day – and enjoy the break in routine of a National Holiday!
We acknowledge with gratitude
the many gifts, blessings and freedoms
that continue to surround our lives and ministries in Australia.
We remember with gratitude the Australian Brigidine Story that has unfolded since 1883.
We give thanks for the ancient history of Indigenous Australians – their lives and stories, their deep connection to land, their wisdom and their continuing presence and contribution to society.
We are also mindful of injustices within Australia’s Story – and on Australia Day 2024 we are particularly aware that Australia’s first peoples are asking non-indigenous Australians to consider what 26th January means for them.
Perhaps during the National Holiday, Brigidnes and friends in Australia could take some time to reflect… to open our hearts in growing awareness…. to consider… Indigenous Awareness – on Australia Day. 2024
Across the Congregation, within our communities, with partners, colleagues and friends,
“let us work for the reign of justice, liberation, harmony and dignity of all.”
Happy Australia Day!
