Bridging Gaps

Brigidines acknowledge World Day of Social Justice on February 20 and the 2025 theme:Empowering Inclusion: Bridging Gaps for Social Justice,”

In the footsteps of Brigid of Kildare and Daniel Delany, working to build a more just society is intrinsic to our mission as Brigidines.

We continue this mission, in a variety of formal and informal ways as advocates for people who are marginalized in our world today – asylum seekers, refugees, travellers, indigenous and islander peoples and people vulnerable to being trafficked and exploited.

“This year’s theme  invites relationship. It encourages all people of goodwill to make room for everyone in their hearts and in society, and to build meaningful relationships. True social justice goes beyond words: it requires action, awareness, and a constant commitment to inclusion. Enhancing inclusion means recognizing and addressing systemic barriers that marginalize individuals and communities. It means filling gaps in access, representation, and opportunities so that every person, regardless of their context, can participate fully in society.

In commemorating this day, one can reflect on these questions: What is the meaning of this day for me? How can an individual contribute to social justice?”

Pope Francis offers us an invitation to flow from our ‘little lagoon’ into the broader river of which we are a part.
In this context we are challenged to listen and respond to the cry of all life, pleading,  ‘Am I not your neighbour?’
