Building the Future with Migrants and Refugees

Brigidine Sisters and colleagues are committed to walking with and for Migrants and Refugees – sharing  hospitality, dignity and support in a variety of ways, in a number of countries.

The Vatican World Day of Migrants and Refugees (WDMR)  2022 is on 25th September and Pope Francis has chosen the Theme : Building the Future with Migrants and Refugees.  He reminds us of the enormous contribution people of migrant and refugee background bring to the life of the communities that welcome them.

In the United States, WDMR is preceded by National Migration Week.  The USCCB has offered food for thought and action:  USCCB-NMW-Toolkit-2022

The Australian Catholic Migrant and Refugee Office has also created a ‘Toolkit’  As well as offering refection, prayer and action suggestions, this publication shares hope-filled stories of people of refugee background – highlighting the strengths and inspiration they have brought to the community.  (Take a few minutes to hear Lulu’s story on page 10). “… history teaches us that the contribution of migrants and refugees has been fundamental to the social and economic growth of our societies. This continues to be true in our own day. Their work, their youth, their enthusiasm and their willingness to sacrifice enrich the communities that receive them. Enormous potential exists, ready to be harnessed, if only it is given a chance.”
