Each August we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration when we look to Jesus on the mountain, seeing the glory of God shining through and around him.
On the feast of the Assumption celebrated annually on 15th August, we focus on Mary of Nazareth and look forward to sharing what Mary already possesses, ie the final glory marked out for her by God.
In the Prayer of the Church each evening we pray Mary’s Magnificat Prayer. Through our celebration of the Assumption this year, let us ponder more deeply on Mary’s words, fulfilled in a way that has transcended all the expectations of the young woman of Nazareth: “The One who is mighty has done great things for me and holy is God’s name” (Luke 1:49).
