In answer to Pope Francis’ call that “the works of mercy also include care for our common home” we are invited to join with Catholics around the world to mark this day in some ways during the week after Easter.
This year, the official theme for Earth Day is “Protect Our Species.”
To celebrate the gift of hope and to symbolize our commitment to protecting all creation, we are invited to join with others at this time in taking action together.
Some suggested actions to take during this week might include:
* Advocate for action on climate change to protect the Amazon,
* Gather with others in your local community for reflection or sharing on points raised in Pope Francis’ encyclical “Laudato Si”.
* Form a small reading group to study ‘Laudato Si’ invitations and call.
* Plant a tree to symbolize your commitment to protecting forestland or some seedlings that will nurture a sense of wonder as you watch them grow.
