Eliminate Violence Against Women

Brigidines recognise the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women,  designated as November 25 by the United Nations General Assembly.

The main aim of this day is to raise awareness that, around the world, women are subjected to many forms of violence and to highlight the fact that the scale and true nature of gender- base violence  are often hidden.

“Violence against women and girls remains one of the most prevalent and pervasive human rights violations in the world. This scourge has intensified in different settings, including the workplace and online spaces, and has been exacerbated by conflicts, and climate change. The solution lies in robust responses, holding perpetrators accountable, and accelerating action through well-resourced national strategies and increased funding to women’s rights movements.” (Source: UN)

The Day calls for all of us to deepen our awareness, promote women’s rights and to advocate in small yet meaningful ways, wherever we happen to be. Each of us can raise awareness for one other person.

A year has passed since UNANIMA’s Director, Jean Quinn DW offered the keynote speech at Talitha Kum’s Conference in Rome on International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
On this day 2024, her message is very much worth reading again: Invisible_No_More – Jean Quinn.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women is also marked as Day 1 of the annual 16-days of activism against gender-based violence (Day 16 is International Human Rights Day, 10 December)
