Hunger: A Shameful Tragedy

Brigidine Sisters recognize that we live in a time that’s full of contradictions. While there have been significant developments in science and food production, the number of people fighting hunger, malnutrition and food insecurity is growing, and the current pandemic will make these figures even worse.

“Hunger is not only a tragedy, it is also shameful”  These challenging words were spoken by  Pope Francis on World Food Day. Let us be aware of this challenge in our world, by being ever grateful for the food we have each and every day.

We will continue to raise awareness about the urgent needs of those  suffering malnutrition and hunger in the world and of issues such as climate change, spending on arms, displacement and the unequal distribution of the fruits of the earth which all contribute to these shameful realities in so many places.
