“I Have Come to Bring Fire to the Earth”

On the Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C, the Gospel Reading is from Luke 12:49 – 53. This reading conveys something of the urgency Jesus had about his mission – “I have come to bring fire to the earth. (v49).

In a number of ways it invites us to maintain a sense of urgency about living the mission of Jesus to which we have been called by our baptism.

The Second Reading for the weekend, a Reading from the Letter to the Hebrews powerfully reminds us“not lose sight of Jesus, who leads us in our faith” (12:1-2) and to “keep running steadily in the race we have started.” (12:1)

What fires you in your life? What fires you in your ministry? Who and what continues to inspire you in your living of the Gospel?

The following reflection by Veronica Lawson RSM is offered here for prayer and reflection in the coming week.
