Brigidine Sisters together with our associates and partners in ministry mark the 2020 International Day of Biological Diversity on 22 May.
As the global community is called to re-examine its relationship with the natural world, one thing is certain: despite all our technological advances we are completely dependent on healthy and vibrant ecosystems for our health, water, food, medicines, clothes, fuel, shelter and energy, just to name a few.
The theme for 2020 International Day of Biological Diversity – “Our Solutions Are In Nature” emphasises hope, solidarity and the importance of working together at all levels to build a future of life in harmony with Nature.
Let’s make this a year of reflection, opportunity and solutions.
Each of us, is called and invited to play our part in using this time to build the resilience of our communities and nations as we recover from the current Covid-19 pandemic. “We are called to look with new eyes that recognise fresh possibilities and hearts that respond with compassion and courage”. (Invitation and Call – 2016 Brigidine Congregational Forum)
2020 is the year when, more than ever, the world can signal a strong will for a global framework that will “bend the curve” on biodiversity loss for the benefit of humans and all life on Earth.
St Brigid, Earth Woman and our Patroness, inspire us to deeply appreciate the diversity of creation’s gifts and to do our part in protecting them for the common good of all beings and for future generations.
