International Day of Peace – 21 September

This international day was established in 1981 by a unanimous United Nations resolution. The General Assembly declared it a day devoted to “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.”

Pope Francis has said: “The time has come for religious leaders to cooperate more effectively in the work of healing wounds, resolving conflicts and pursuing peace. We must be peacemakers, and our communities must be schools of respect and dialogue with those of other ethnic or religious groups, places where we learn to overcome tensions, foster just and peaceful relations between peoples and social groups, and build a better future.”  – Pope Francis

On this International Day of Peace, let us recommit to working for justice so that peace between all peoples and nations may indeed come in our time.
