Brigidine Sisters join with people everywhere marking the 2021 International Day of the Girl Child on October 11. This global observance, declared by the United Nations, promotes girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights.
The annual Day of the Girl also focuses attention on the challenges girls face today. These challenges include violence and abuse, education inequality, marginalization and child marriage. For the millions of girls in countries prone to conflict and crisis, such challenges are especially formidable.
On this day we renew our commitment to advocate and campaign for the basic rights of all, especially girls and women.
We bring this hope to our prayer on this Day of the Girl. We give thanks for all the girls and young women in our families, ministries and networks. Let us pray for the millions of girls displaced by different forms of violence and those who are homeless, trafficked and exploited.
