As part of this anniversary year of Pope Francis’ 2015 encyclical “Laudato Si”, on Care for Our Common Home, the Vatican’s Peace and Justice Office is inviting all Catholic communities, agencies and ministry groups across the world to join a grassroots movement to gradually work toward “total sustainability” in the coming ten years. This is a path that would include carbon neutrality, simpler lifestyles and a divestment from fossil fuels.
This invitation to action has strong echoes and implications for us who were called at our 2016 Brigidine Congregational Forum “to deepen our understanding of the complexity and inter-relatedness of factors which threaten the life and well-being of our common home” .
