This year on August 6, we observe the 75th anniversary of the day in 1945 when Hiroshima and Nagasaki were devastated by the first atomic bombs.
That same year, upon the conclusion of the Second World War, Pax Christi International was founded as a movement of reconciliation between French and German Catholics who aspired to peace. Today, Pax Christi has 120 Member Organizations active in more than 50 countries worldwide.
Pax Christi is made up of lay people, bishops and other religious people who work as equals in the pursuit of peace. Members believe that peace is possible and that the cycles of injustice and violence can be broken.
On this anniversary day we pray for an end to all injustice, violence and war. May we be channels of peace in our homes, workplaces and communities.
God of all peoples and of all creation, may there be peace and may it begin with us!
