Make It A Year of Peace for Children

UNICEF is appealing for an end to the war in Syria so that 2020 will be “a year of peace for millions of Syrian children who continue to be victims of the ongoing conflict”.

The Executive Director of UNICEF, Henrietta Fore is reported as saying during her appeal: “As a new year begins and the war in Syria approaches its tenth year, the situation for many children – especially in the northwest of the country – remains dire.”

The beginning of the year is meant to be a time to look forward. However, “for families in Syria, any hope is all too often extinguished by heart-breaking violence”, Henrietta said.

Both the image and text in the following link rom the Vatican News further challenge us. Let’s begin the year by continuing to pray and work for peace in the world, especially in Syria and the Middle East.

Let’s maintain our advocacy and support for all men, women and children who’ve been forced to flee their homes because of war, persecution and other forms of violence.
