A report on the realities of modern slavery in the Pacific was launched in Australia recently by Walk Free and the Minderoo Foundation.
This report identifies cases of slavery in the Pacific. These include the extremely exploitative practices of forced labour, the worst forms of child labour, and forced and early marriage.
The report goes on to outline factors that contribute to vulnerability to slavery in the Pacific region. It also urges governments in the Pacific region to collaborate and tackle this issue of modern slavery as a priority.

As Brigidine Sisters are involved in the “Pacific Calling Project” in the Pacific, this report has special significance for us as a Congregation. As a number of Brigidine Sisters live and minister in the area of the Pacific, this report has urgent implications for those of us living in New Zealand and Australia.
