Pause for Peace – on St Brigid’s Day

Brigidines, colleagues, partners and friends are invited and encouraged to participate in the Pause for Peace movement on the 1st February 2023.

Pause for Peace  is an initiative of the Solas Bhríde Team, who has joined with Into Kildare  and the residents of Kildare, ‘to call on people all around the world to stop for a minute’s silence at 12.00 noon (local time) on  St Brigid’s Day, 1st  February 2023.’

The movement aims to awaken and build a spirit of global solidarity in our search for peace – on a day that honours  the legacy of St Brigid, Woman of Peace.

Pause for Peace was launched at Solas Bhríde on 12th January.  Phil O’Shea csb offers a  summary of the event,  including  reflections shared by Rita Minahan csb about the movement and its significance at this time:

Pause for Peace will become a new feature in the series of events  held during Feile Bride  (31st Jan – 7th Feb, 2023)  Féile Bríde (brigidine.org)

National Holiday

Beginning in 2023, the people of Ireland will enjoy an annual national holiday in honour of St Brigid, – on the Monday following St Brigid’s Day.

“This movement for a Pause for Peace sets the scene for marking the new national holiday. It reflects a spiritual underpinning to the day and is consonant with the value of peace which Brigid stood for in her time.”  – (Rita Minahan csb)
