On Easter Sunday more than 250 people were killed in a series of what appears to be co-ordinated bomb attacks on Christian churches, city hotels and other sites in and around Columbo, Sri Lanka. Worshippers gathered at St Anthony’s Catholic Shrine in Columbo, St Sebastians Church in Negombo and the Zion Church in Batticaloa were targets of the attacks while others were killed at three hotels in the city.
We condemn these horrendous attacks and all forms of violence and resolve to advocate and work for an end to violence in the world.
We join with Christians and others in praying for the hundreds who’ve been injured and impacted by this violence and the rescue workers and carers.
May the light and grace of Christ’s resurrection break through for the people of Sri Lanka in the midst of the horror and darkness of this violence!
