Irish Columban Father Sean McDonagh SCC is a highly respected environmentalist and author. In his recent writings he asserts that “The ways humans destroy much of the natural world and engage in factory farming is based on the fallacy that what we do to the natural world will not have a negative impact on human health and wellbeing”. He goes on to suggest that the present experience of Covid-19 tells us that this is not true.

Reflecting on this reading might lead to fruitful prayer and discussions in our Communities and places of ministry during the time of Covid-19. In the coming months leading to our Congregational Forum in 2021 this article reminds us that the choice is in our hands – “Either we need to drastically
change our ways of relating to the natural world, or get ready for the next pandemic”.
