Treasure, Pearl and A Great Haul

The Gospel for the Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year A  (Matt 13:44-52) is from the conclusion of Matthew’s chapter of wonderful parables.

Covid 19 time seems a good time to reflect on what are the things we truly treasure in life. For what would we be prepared to risk everything?

Which of these three parables sparks your imagination – the treasure hidden in a field, the fine pearl of great price or the dragnet cast into the sea? What aspect of life does this relate to for you? What might God be inviting you to consider as you reflect on this image?

Like Matthew’s community, God invites us to bring out from the store of our experiences, traditions and wisdom things both old and new as with all global citizens we face present challenging realities and a somewhat changed and uncertain future.

“Blessed are you Father, Lord of heaven and earth; you have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the kin-dom”. (cf Matthew 11:25)

The following words by Veronica Lawson RSM are offered to enrich our prayer and reflection in the coming week:
