Truth Telling: The Role of Journalists

Brigidine Sisters give thanks for the work of all journalists who strive to bring news of truth to the world. We are saddened by the recent death of Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. Shireen worked as a journalist for the Al Jazeera Network and was shot dead by Israeli soldiers while covering their raid on the occupied West Bank city of Jenin.

We give thanks for Titus Brandsma, whom Pope Francis canonized last weekend. Titus,  a Dutch theologian, journalist, author, and Carmelite priest, took seriously the responsibility of speaking and writing only the truth, regardless of the risks.

He is described as a journalist-martyr of the 20th Century. https://www.vaticannews.va/titus-brandsma-journalist-martyr-saint-20th-century

We pray for all journalists around the world that they will continue to shine the light of truth on local and global events in spite of  any threats or risks.

St. Francis de Sales, patron saint of writers and journalists, support journalists in their daily and often dangerous  work of upholding the truth.
