Universal Children’s Day – 20 November

In reminding the world community of this event, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stated:

“This year, I wish to emphasize the importance of ensuring that the commitments made by the international community to the world’s children are extended to a group of children who are often forgotten or overlooked: those deprived of their liberty.”

On Universal Children’s Day this year we give thanks for the joy and the gift of life children bring to our families and our communities.

We remember children who live each and every day in family or societal conflict, those trapped in war torn areas or whose families are displaced by persecution, environmental  degradation or natural disasters.

Young girls and boys deprived of a education and forced into labour and the millions of children trafficked into various forms of human slavery around the world are also remembered on this Universal Children’s Day.

Brigidines Sisters , our associates and colleagues in ministry, are committed to educating and empowering children and young people to live freely.

We invite you to join us in praying and working for a world in which no children will be “forgotten or overlooked – deprived of their liberty.”
