On the Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year A the Gospel reading we hear from Matthew 15:21-28 culminates in the healing of a “daughter” who may be a little girl or even a young woman. Her mother, the main character in the story, is known to Matthew’s community simply as a Canaanite woman, or in other words an indigenous woman. It is the well-known story of the persistent woman who approaches Jesus pleading for help for her daughter and not being prepared to give up. After a time of silence, Jesus recognizes eventually her great faith and responds to her request.
You are invited set aside some time to listen to the following reflection offered by Veronica Lawson RSM and decide what action this weekend’s Gospel is inviting you to take. https://catholicearthcare.org.au/2020/07/reflection-for-sunday-16-august-2020/
