For many years Brigidine Sisters conducted boarding schools for girls in a number of places to ensure young women had access to education. Though we no longer have such boarding schools, some women religious continue to make a valued and valuable contribution to education in this way.
The following account of the ministry of Irish Loreto Sister Orla Treacy in South Sudan tells of her community’s way of ensuring young women in South Sudan are able to access their right to education.
As Brigidines we support the work of Kildare Ministries which continue to ensure Catholic education in the Brigidine and Presentation tradition in nine secondary schools in Australia.
We also rejoice in the ministry of Loretta Brennan CSB in leadership formation and training at Tangaza College in Kenya and all other Brigidine Sisters still involved in or supporting educational ministries at primary, secondary and tertiary levels.
