World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, 30 July 2014

Human trafficking has no place in the modern world, the President of the General Assembly declared at a special event at United Nations Headquarters ahead of the observance of the first ever World Day against Trafficking in Persons.

“Millions of people, the majority of whom are women and children, are victims of a modern form of slavery – we call it human trafficking,” John Ashe said, noting that an estimated 2.5 million people are victim to this scourge.
