Pope Francis’ recently released message for the 2018 World Day of Peace is entitled Migrants and Refugees: Men and Women in Search of Peace. This message consists of six sections. Apart from offering peace, it also invites all people of good will to embrace those fleeing war, hunger and persecution.
The message considers the question of why there are so many migrants and refugees today and offers four opportunities for action to be taken if refugees are to find the peace they seek. These include: welcoming, protecting, promoting and integrating.
May these actions be reflected in the various responses of each Brigidine Sister, our Communities, Associates and colleagues in ministry in 2018, as we take up this invitation and open our hearts to the suffering of our brothers and sisters searching for somewhere to live in peace.
May our reflection on the Letter to the Hebrews truly shape our lives: “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels.” (13:2)
