The theme of Pope Francis’ message for the 2025 World Day of Peace on 1st January is:
“Forgive us our trespasses, Grant us your Peace.”
In considering the systemic interconnected challenges we face as a global community, he highlights the cruel treatment of migrants, the disregard for environmental decay, the deliberate confusion created by disinformation, the refusal to dialogue and the immense resources spent on war.
Rather than hasty handouts, he notes that such challenges require change on a personal, cultural, and structural level “in order to confront the present state of injustice and inequality.”
True peace, Pope Francis says, is granted to hearts that are “disarmed” of selfishness, hostility, and anxiety for the future, replacing them with generosity, forgiveness, and hope for a better world:
“May we seek the true peace that is granted to hearts disarmed.”
