On World Refugee Day, held every year on June 20th, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, commemorate the strength, courage and perseverance of millions of refugees. This year, World Refugee Day also marks a key moment for the public to show support for families forced to flee.
The Brigidines encourage the wider community to sign the #WithRefugees petition at www.unhcr.org/refugeeday. People from across the globe can call on governments to work together and do their fair share for refugees.
The #WithRefugees petition will be delivered to UN headquarters in New York ahead of the UN General Assembly on September 19. The petition asks governments to:
• Ensure every refugee child gets an education.
• Ensure every refugee family has somewhere safe to live.
• Ensure every refugee can work or learn new skills to make a positive contribution to their community.
