“Even just one of these children”
is the theme for the 112th World Day of Migrants and Refugees on 27 September 2026.
Brigidines acknowledge this World Day and its theme, calling us to heightened awareness of the vulnerability of migrant and refugee minors on the move.
Some families choose to seek or respond to opportunities in a new country. Others are forced to flee their homeland, seeking safety.
On WDMR 2026 we are called to recognise the silent displacement, disrupted learning, and emotional trauma of children and youth – that are all too often overlooked.
In his message for the WDMR 2026 Pope Leo XIV notes that “minors are the most vulnerable group within the global movements of migration” and that they are “concrete faces, who have unique stories, and call on our conscience.”
We are reminded that behind migration statistics are children and youth whose lives have been shaped by war, poverty, violence, environmental disasters and family separation.
At the same time, Pope Leo points to signs of hope in the witness of families, educators, volunteers and communities who welcome, accompany and support young migrants and refugees.
