International Day for the Eradication of Poverty
“We are not faced with two separate crises, one environmental and the other social, but rather with one complex crisis which is both social and environmental.” (Laudato Si’, 139)
As Brigidines, we stand in reverence for the community of life and will continue to engage with others in a variety of ways to further compassion and justice for humanity and for planet Earth.
We acknowledge the UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty 2026 on 17 October – and recognise the interconnected nuance in this year’s Theme: “Safe Homes for All.”
The UN’s 2026 theme highlights the fact that homelessness is rooted in
deep disadvantage and social exclusion and calls for action in three key areas:
Consider:
“Behind every homelessness story we see humanity in the face of inequality.”

In a variety of formal and informal ways we are called as advocates for people who are marginalized in our world today.

” As Brigidines, we remain “ committed to working with our colleagues and others
to help bring the reforms needed for the realisation of a more just world.”
