On October 11 we celebrate the International Day of the Girl. We give thanks for the distinctive and priceless contributions of every girl – society’s future leaders.
On this day let us remember that every girl is born with dignity and possessing the inherent rights of all humans. She also has a unique right to a safe and secure childhood that will enable her to reach full potential as an individual and as a member of society.
We recommit to working to eliminate all forms of discrimination against girls.
We will promote and protect their rights and continue to raise awareness of their needs and potential.
We will continue to call for an end to all forms of violence and exploitation against girls.
On this day, we pray for the girls in our own families and neighbourhoods and those we encounter in our various ministries each day.
We pray in particular on this day for girls who are separated from their families, those in refugee camps, detention centres, refuges or brothels or those who are homeless.
