Living Water – Season of Creation 2026

Brigidines recognise “creation care” as a holistic response to the interconnected  environmental and social challenges of our time. We remain mindful of Laudato Si’s call to listen and respond to

“ the Cry of Earth and those rendered poor.” (LS)

As the Season of Creation 2026 begins, let us consider:

” In an integrated view of the world, listening to the voice of creation in nature is central.
We see there the preciousness and glory of tiny things like autumn leaves, sunsets,
ants at work, the cool breeze at the end of a hot day.
We see also how delicate are the connections between sun, water and growth.
Creation is massive but it is also delicate.”

The divine communicates to us primarily through the language of the natural world.
Not to hear the natural world is not to hear the divine.

“Living creatures will live wherever the river flows. There will be large numbers of fish, because this water flows there and makes the salt water fresh; so where the river flows everything will live. […] Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing.”

The ecumenical Season of Creation begins on World Day of Prayer for Creation on 1st September and runs until the feast of St Francis of Assisi on 4th October. The Season encourages us on a spiritual journey, inviting us to take time to consider the ways we might consciously listen, hear and respond to the voice of creation.

The Season’s 2026 theme: Living Water, highlights the Gift of water.
Water transforms, renews, restores, heals and sustains the community of all life. Understandably, water often serves as a symbol or sign of Blessing.

The Season of Creation continues to grow as a key moment for faith-based climate engagement.
The 2026 theme, Living Water, highlights urgent global issues such as:
– Water scarcity and access to clean water,
– Ecosystem degradation and biodiversity loss,
– The intersection of poverty and environmental vulnerability
