Water for Peace

Embracing our role in the one community of life…(Invitation & Call, 2022)

The theme of World Water Day 2024 (22 March)  is Water for Peace drawing attention to water as intrinsic to all aspects of the interconnected community of life.
Whether in rivers, lakes or oceans, water means life to ecosystems, agriculture, industry and human well-being.

World Water Day also highlights the need to recognise and respect water scarcity globally.  About 2.2 billion people still lack access to clean drinking water.

“When we cooperate on water, we create a positive ripple effect — fostering harmony, generating prosperity and building resilience to shared challenges.”
– United Nations, WWD 2024

Brigidines recognise the challenge and reminder to mindfully use water with co-operation, respect and gratitude. We are also  privileged to be able to support Voices for Change, who advocate and work in ways beyond our capacity physically and regionally. Our Congregation Projects Fund supports extraordinary Groups, working for environmental justice:

UNANIMA International:  One of the core works of UNANIMA International focuses on Water as a human right for communities impacted by the effects of climate change. Brigidines support UNANIMA

Pacific Calling Partnership:  The Partnership supports and listens to the peoples of a region  suffering greatly from climate change and scarcity of clean drinking water.  Brigidines support PCP

We are not faced with two separate crises, one environmental and the other social, but rather with one complex crisis which is both social and environmental.”
